Ham Radio Deluxe Ft-950 Failed to Read Frequency March 04, 2022 Post a Comment Thread Condition: Not open for farther replies. I had a 232 to USB cablevision with an FTDI chipset and HRD kept stopping many times over regardless of what I did. Sometimes information technology ran OK other times you merely could not keep information technology going. All I was doing was running the band telescopic with a standard brandish. And so someone told me that Windows vii 64 bit did not like the FTDI chipset then I purchased a PCI limited card with a DB9 connector to get direct and thought peradventure I would have less problems. So I installed the Startech rs232 bill of fare with UART and looking at the device manager I see that it'southward in that location and working properly on com 4. And so I start HRD with the radio on and tell it to connect to com 4 (and tried auto detect) and goose egg. I too tried auto find speed and RTS, DTS and and so both and I still get Freq 0 and FT-950 failed to read freq. I don't know if it makes a difference but I am running a serial nada modem cable that I had laying effectually. This has almost got to be something unproblematic that I am overlooking? Yeah, that makes a difference. It needs to be a straight through F-F cablevision. Run the FT-950 here in the evolution shack and works slap-up. Nosotros've never had bug with FTDI chipsets, simply the prolifics and it looks like their latest driver fixed 99% of the event with HRD. Best Rick - W4PC I thought of that cable at the final infinitesimal and thought that might be it. I had bug with the July and the Baronial downloads from the get with the FTDI chipset. Sometimes information technology would run other times I had to open up the plan five times and information technology only crashed before it really got going, only turning the radio on. Thanks Ken, I'g running a 950 with a 32 bit Win-vii machine. I'1000 not in the shack right now just IIRC, I'm using COM3 and 4800 baud to connect. I'm also using a Serial to USB converter (~$25.00 at Walmart dot com) and information technology works just fine! The HRD screens totally interface with the radio and while almost one/4 slow in the readout when I'k using the dial on the radio, the logging function is spot on. I as well use the Yaesu radio controlling software on rare occasions and it too uses the same port and baud. I have had the radio for about two months and have admittedly no complaints with the radio or the interface and makes the whole process like shooting fish in a barrel. Expert luck! Steve, W1OD I had noted that the display was boring too at times. I should take the straight through rs 232 cable shortly and hope it cures the crashing problems for me. I accept deleted and reloaded the software so many times trying to find a problem that I am tired of it. I am hoping having a dedicated rs 232 port on the reckoner will also speed things up just a bit. Just an update afterwards having all the issues despite multiple downloads of version .36 that came out in Aug. I beginning tried the FTDI chipset cablevision just sometimes when opening the program information technology would merely stop working, something iii-5 times in a row and I would have to cancel and start it once again. Then once continued if I selected a frequency to offset my scan at using the ring scope and hit the utilise button it would error out. Other times just pressing a band push button to selection some other band would stop the program from running. Then I installed an RS 232 carte in my figurer and got an RS 232 cable and have now tried information technology that way for days. I have the aforementioned results as with the USB adapter cable I tried before. I have a new FT-950, both cables were new, and I have tried to download the latest version that came out in Aug many many times. I am not sure what is wrong, but I am fix to just requite up. Sorry to hear y'all are still having problems Ken. I have tested the new version of HRD on 64 bit Win 7 and have seen problems. The adapter may accept nothing to do with your bug, Merely that is the first thing that gets the arraign. Attempt the HRD FT-950 Demo-Matic and see if information technology works for y'all, to eliminate interface problems. If it works in the FT-950 Demo-Matic way so yous may want to disable FIFO in the windows control console hardware settings and attempt to connect to the radio. I don't think it volition piece of work even in the FT-950 Demo-Matic mode for very long. It seems like the band telescopic does not work very long before HRD will crash. It is non merely you having bug. Good Luck. Thanks for the suggestions. I will assume that yous noted that I tried both an FDTI chipset USB adaptor (new cablevision) and an RS232 card I installed in my reckoner with a new cable? I took your suggestion that I try the Demo-Matic for the FT-950. It came up OK but and then does the regular boot upwards then that does non mean much. At other times when bringing the FT-950 up information technology dies inside seconds of booting and I will have to restart the program 3-5 times earlier it stays up. So so I selected the freq I want to start my scan from and applied it and information technology was stable. So I dropped down to the scan button to start the scan and bingo~~it crashed. Then fifty-fifty the Demo-Matic is not stable. I am assuming that something in HRD and Windows seven 64 bit is not working right. I even tried going dorsum every bit far every bit I could and download an before version of HRD to see it that helped and it did the same thing to me. It'south random for some reason. Well-nigh 50% of the fourth dimension the program faults from the kick. Then if I get information technology upwardly and running OK when I select a freq I want to start my scan at information technology faults out when I hit the apply button or when I move the cursor to first the scan or really offset the scan by pressing the button on the band telescopic. At other times after I go through these faults and become information technology up and running it's just fine as long as I don't shut information technology down. I cannot figure this out for the life of me. It's a good matter I am not a contester anyhow. Do you get something like this when it crashes ? That is what I go. I did come across that you lot changed your RS232 connection, and still the aforementioned problem. I promise the new paid for release works meliorate than what they have at present. I don't mind paying for working software, but I don't really intendance to have to debug information technology myself, but sometimes you have to figure it out, even with paid back up. I have a few ideas how yous could make information technology work, I could give you lot the info in a PM if needed. Similar but not the same every bit I don't get all the goodies at the lesser. It just comes up and says it's stopped working and the computer tries to observe a solution which of grade dead ends on me. I cannot complain equally what I am using is free a this signal and I apply but a pocket-size portion of the program at that and I actually don't recollect I will ever use but fifty-fifty that small percentage of it. I only thought is someone was having the same issues I was having that maybe nosotros could share data. Bluntly at this point I have bought a USB converter cable, an RS232 cable and a bill of fare for the RS232 cablevision for the computer and that'south near more than having the band scope is worth to me at this point.
